"Sorry"

So in New York City, no one ever apologizes for anything.

Slam into you on the street? Keep walking. Run you over with their stroller? Speed past. Trip you up on the stairs running to the train? Survival of the fittest, baby.

So on occasion when someone barely bumps into you me the train home, so slight I don't even notice, and they smile and apologize, I have to smile back knowing that there are still some New Yorkers out there who aren't completely jaded. Of course, they're probably like me, NY transplants from the South or Midwest, but I'll take it.

WFC

Some pics of where I work now, in World Financial Center.
Got to say, I absolutely love the Financial District. It's so nice. It's not crowded. I can go eat lunch in the plaza outside on the river. There aren't millions of people clamoring around and pushing and shoving like there are in Midtown.
I really don't want Rupert Murdoch to move us the News Corp. building! I love Lower Manhattan!

Obviously, I did not take this photo. But here's what it looks like from afar.

Rookie Mistakes

So even though I've lived in New York for about nine months now, apparently I can still make rookie mistakes.

On my third day of work in the city (however, not my third day living there), I managed to get on the train without looking, and of course it ended up being the wrong one. The two trains (N, W) are the same throughout most of Manhattan but split off in lower Manhattan, where I work. So I was on the wrong train, ended up in Brooklyn and had to email my boss and admit to my embarrassing mistake. And to add insult to injury, my train mishap made me forget that I had an Italian ice in my purse, which then melted. I didn't realize that until I felt something sticky dripping from the bottom of my purse on the way home from work and then had to go buy a new purse. Hi, I'm a genius.

So apparently I don't do mornings very well.
