What is with this country that it is so hard to find a nice women's suit? I've been looking around, trying to find a good suit (that I will hope) to wear for job interviews. I have an Express one, and one from Target, but I feel like I need something really nice for a real job, something that screams "take me seriously! Hire me!" Apparently, however, it's not possible because they are all ugly.
Think about all of the beautiful options men have for suits. Where are those options for women? Everything I've been able to find so far does not look good. Women's suits should not swallow you and make you look like a woman trying to be a man, in my opinion. Why can't they make suits that are both chic and professional at the same time?
I've Googled "women's suit" a bazillion times, even going as far as to look up "French suit," but, alas, not even any French sites will come up. At times like these, I wish I were a man. Life would be easier.

Short hops
... As we call them at the Sports Desk. Have a million things on my mind. Hope to elaborate if I ever reacquire my attention span.• New York. L.A. Chicago. Where do I really want to move? Where can I really (almost) afford? Where will I be the happiest?
• Magazines? Corporate? B2B? Where do I apply? Newspaper jobs are mostly in crap small towns – no, thanks.
• I wish I had more online experience. I'm working on and looking into that.
• Dress code. Can I not wear an Express suit to an interview in a hip city without looking generic Midwestern? Sorry, I can't afford Prada/Chanel. And I'm not hip. I intend on being a copy editor (read: grammar guru) not fashion editor (read: style specialist).
• Is the market really so bad that I won't even get a job?
• Can I please just stop being an intern.
• Should I just suck it up and work somewhere else for a year? Could I even do that, considering how miserable I've been in the area as of late?
• I refuse to send out a Microsoft Word-ed résumé, even though one site recommends it. Ick. How ugly. I at least have enough design experience to make my résumé presentable.
• Can I freelance in Cincinnati? I could really use the money (and clips).
• How do copy editors make friends with these hours? Oh, right, they only hang out with other copy editors ...
• Will I be able to make friends in another city?
• Can I just go home now?

Welcome to ... what?
As a recent grad simultaneously suffering from the daily internship grind (read: poor) and the first-job searching process, I figure I might as well blog. Maybe no one cares, but I'll write anyway. It's like having an imaginary friend named "The Internet" who happens to also have lots of other friends.
I'm a spring 2007 graduate of Indiana University's School of Journalism and a four-year member of the school's independent paper, the Indiana Daily Student.
UPDATE: OK, well, I'm going to try to keep up with this so my family can keep tabs on how I'm doing in NYC.
