Maine

I know I don't write much. Maybe I'll get better one day.
I went to Maine last month over Labor Day:

The Bush family summer home in Keenebunkport.

Us out shopping in Kennebunk.

I even ate a lobster.

Best View of the City

We had visitors this past weekend! Yay! Jordan, Mattucci and our other friend from the IDS, Katie. Some pics:

From the Staten Island ferry (which is FREE!)

Also, all of us on the river front. (Statue of Liberty barely visible in the background)

Mets game!

"Sorry"

So in New York City, no one ever apologizes for anything.

Slam into you on the street? Keep walking. Run you over with their stroller? Speed past. Trip you up on the stairs running to the train? Survival of the fittest, baby.

So on occasion when someone barely bumps into you me the train home, so slight I don't even notice, and they smile and apologize, I have to smile back knowing that there are still some New Yorkers out there who aren't completely jaded. Of course, they're probably like me, NY transplants from the South or Midwest, but I'll take it.

WFC

Some pics of where I work now, in World Financial Center.
Got to say, I absolutely love the Financial District. It's so nice. It's not crowded. I can go eat lunch in the plaza outside on the river. There aren't millions of people clamoring around and pushing and shoving like there are in Midtown.
I really don't want Rupert Murdoch to move us the News Corp. building! I love Lower Manhattan!

Obviously, I did not take this photo. But here's what it looks like from afar.

Rookie Mistakes

So even though I've lived in New York for about nine months now, apparently I can still make rookie mistakes.

On my third day of work in the city (however, not my third day living there), I managed to get on the train without looking, and of course it ended up being the wrong one. The two trains (N, W) are the same throughout most of Manhattan but split off in lower Manhattan, where I work. So I was on the wrong train, ended up in Brooklyn and had to email my boss and admit to my embarrassing mistake. And to add insult to injury, my train mishap made me forget that I had an Italian ice in my purse, which then melted. I didn't realize that until I felt something sticky dripping from the bottom of my purse on the way home from work and then had to go buy a new purse. Hi, I'm a genius.

So apparently I don't do mornings very well.

I'm Staying in New York

Seriously, either I have the worst luck ever with flying or the airline industry is in shambles.

Went to Denver this weekend (such open space! and no crowds!? How nice.) and missed my flight this morning. Yeah, yeah. It was a 9:10 a.m. flight and I woke up at 8 a.m. So yes, it was my fault. But after missing the 9 a.m. flight, I got put to standby on a 5 p.m. (Mountain time) one. Well that one was overbooked and completely full (although I was first in line to get on... I was even as far as down in the little connector-hallway thing ready to get on if they said go but one girl came running in right at the last minute to keep me off) and so now the next available on is 11:55 p.m. (Mountain time), which is nearly 2 a.m. my time, and means that I won't get back to NYC (not even, actually, Newark, to be more specific) until almost 6 a.m. Which, of course, means I won't get home and into bed until probably around 7 a.m.

So based on this and my last experience flying (one my fault, one not), I think I am just going to stay in New York for a while and not do any more flying.

All My Problems Have Been Solved

It's kind of crazy, and I am leaving for Denver tomorrow, so I'll keep it short and sweet.

But my life's troubles are over. I got a new job, within the same company, but in the New York office, and with normal hours. Which means I will have a life again and see my friends more than once a month. And I won't have to pay New Jersey taxes. And I won't have to pay tolls. And I won't have to spend $250 a month in gas. I won't even need my car here at all. I'm very, very excited.

More details to come later!!
